The House And The Boxing Ring Are Not The Same Thing!
Manny Pacquiao, while still enjoying the limelight after winning two (correct me if I'm wrong) boxing matches against some Mexican boxers, has filed his candidacy for congressman of the first district of South Cotabato. For crying out loud, what is he going to do in the House of Representative if ever he is elected?! I mean can he make laws? I think he doesn't even know how to draft one. All the publicities and the attentions have got his head swollen and now he thinks that his popularity can get him a seat in the House. Winning the election is one thing, but doing all the duties of a congressman is another thing. As Neal H. Cruz wrote on his column on the Philippine Daily Inquirer:
He cannot challenge congressmen who do not agree with him to a fistfight… His big mistake was choosing his opponent. He is fighting a tiny wisp of a girl, Rep. Darlene Antonio-Custodio, but this is not a boxing ring. This is a different kind of sport, something Pacquiao would find much more complex and complicated. This is a fight for the hearts and minds of the people of South Cotabato where his boxing prowess will not do him any good.
Pacman has been trained as a boxer not as a lawmaker. He should stay in the boxing arena. I'm not questioning his intentions on entering politics but if he wanted to help people there are lots of ways to do it without getting involved in politics. I've heard he is doing some charity works in General Santos if that is so, then why can't he just continue his noble act without politicking?!
